Indiana Christmas Vacation ~ 2015

Oh my goodness.  This was the best Christmas!  We had so much fun in Indiana this year.  I am so grateful we were able to make this trip happen.  Yeah, we probably couldn't afford it, but we made it happen and I wouldn't change it for anything.  Things just fell into place with schedules this year and it was the best.  Mom was able to have all but one day off that we were there.  Landen had to take a mandatory week off at Paragon, so we figured we might as well take advantage of it.  And this could be one of our last chances to have an Indiana Christmas if Mom and Dad get going on moving out here.  So we did it!  Ellie and I went out for two weeks and Landen joined us for the last week.  It was great!  I am so so so so so thankful we got to have this trip, we really needed it :)  I am always so happy to go home to Indiana too.  It's true, there's no place like home...especially at Christmas time.

Wednesday 12/16/15: Ellie and I had a good traveling day.  I was very thankful :)  (Especially after our trip to Myrtle Beach where she did not do so well on the plane...)  I think it probably helped that we flew out at a normal time of day and she wasn't way off schedule.  Either way, I'm glad it went well.  We went down to Salt Lake a little early to visit with Jess.  I have missed her so much and it was so good to see her.  And she is so great and took us to the airport.  We got checked in and through security and then found out our flight was delayed an hour...but we luckily had a direct flight, so it wasn't too big of a deal.  Ellie loved looking out at the airplanes.  She has been talking about flying on the airplane for months now and was so excited to do it.  I was trying to keep her entertained while waiting in the airport so we took a little walk and stumbled upon Santa's little corner.  Ellie was in heaven!  And it saved us :)  It made the wait much more bearable.  Eventually we got on the plane and Ellie was so excited.  She did so well on the plane.  She climbed right up into her seat and put her seat belt on.  Of course she got a little antsy as we waited to get going and kept doing and undoing her seat belt and getting up and looking out the window.  But once we got in the air she sat still and played with toys and books and the iPad almost the entire time.  It was a good thing because I had to take a Dramamine and it kind of knocked me out and I think I fell asleep for a little while.  Eventually I had to get up and go to the bathroom, but luckily it was toward the end of the flight because after that Ellie wanted to get up and move around.  The last 30 - 45 minutes she was pretty antsy, but we made it!  It was so nice to get off the plane and finally see Grandma Beth and Poppa Tom!  Ellie was so excited!!!  Too bad we flew into Chicago (because it was so much cheaper) and had a 3 hour drive, but hey, you do what you gotta do.  I was so happy to finally get home.  I'm really glad we had a good day and things went smoothly.
Thursday 12/17/15: Our first few days there were BUSY.  We hung out at home on Thursday, but Mom and Dad had to work at the temple that night, so Ellie and I went and visited some friends.  We went to dinner with Theresa and Kelly and the Clarks and the rest of the family.  It was so fun to be able to see all of them!  After dinner we went back to Kelly's house to play cards...my favorite past time.  Ellie loved playing with Reese and Cooper too.  Theresa, Kelly and I had a blast.  It was just like old times.  I love that we can just pick up where we left off every time.  It is my favorite thing.  There's nothing like hanging out with literal lifelong friends :)  I love those ladies.

Friday 12/18/15: Today we spent the morning at home, then we took Ellie to experience one of my favorite Christmas traditions - Christmas Tree shopping!  I told Mom and Dad that they had to wait to get a Christmas tree until we got there so we could take Ellie.  Going to pick out and cut down a tree was always one of my favorite things to do.  We got to the Christmas tree farm and the guy told us that it was pretty late in the season so there wasn't a huge selection of trees to cut down, but we did it more for the experience.  So it was fine with us.  Even though it was freezing cold and super windy we had fun walking around and trying to pick one.  Eventually we gave in and looked at the pre-cut ones and found a beautiful fir to take home.  We just had to recreate the cutting of the tree ;)  No shame!  All in all, it was a fun adventure and I'm so glad we did it!  Afterward Mom, Ellie and I headed to Lafayette to do some Christmas shopping.  Ellie was so funny most of the time while we were out.  There were a few moments when we were out that she said she didn't feel well.  I didn't know what to do to help her and then she would start acting fine, so I didn't worry too much about it.  Well, we got home and within 10 minutes of being home she coughed a really weird cough and I thought that we should get her to the bathroom...and we did just in time for her to get sick...but we made it into the toilet!  Yeah!  Unfortunately for Mom she had to take care of Ellie because it sent me running to the upstairs bathroom.  AH!  I somehow didn't get sick, but I sure did pee my pants...the joys of pregnancy.  Luckily, Ellie only got sick that one time.  I think she was just exhausted and has over done it the past few days.
Saturday 12/19/15: We had quite the day today.  This morning we attended the baptism for Jesse Archer, he is Courtney Clark's boyfriend.  I haven't been to a convert baptism in a long time.  The spirit was so strong.  It was a great way to start the weekend.

Right afterward we ran home and changed and then headed up to South Bend to go visit Grandma Barrell and have a family party.  Ellie and Claire were the stars of the show!  They were so cute together and had a blast playing.  I just loved watching them play.  It was a really fun afternoon visiting and playing with the girls.  As you can see, they loved each other.  And I'm always happy to see Grandma.  She is doing pretty well physically, but I noticed that she is starting to have a harder time mentally theses days.  It is pretty hard to watch her struggle.  It's just hard watching anyone you love getting older.  I'm so grateful that Ellie has at least gotten to meet her Great Grandma a few times.  Right before we were leaving I gave Grandma a big hug and she got emotional, which made me emotional, and we just cried together for a minute.  I love that woman.  Even though it is a long trip to do in one day, I'm always so glad that we make an effort to get up and see Grandma...you just never know how much longer you have with someone, especially when you live across the country.  I also am glad that the rest of the family was able to come too. Family is everything.

So, I have to share this funny story.  When we were getting ready to leave for South Bend Mom told me I should probably take a change of underwear and pants...just in case I have an accident again!!!  HAHAHAHA!  Yes, I peed my pants last night, but I didn't even think about about it.  And my track record over the past month or so hasn't been great, especially if Ellie gets sick or something like that.  What made it even more hilarious was when Dad says, "You know, it's never a good sign when the driver of the car tells you to bring an extra pair of underwear!!!"  I about died.  It was so funny...maybe you just had to be there...but I was laughing so hard.  So I made sure to pack a change of clothes...and so did Dad ;)
Sunday - Tuesday 12/20-22/15:  Ah, the Crawfordsville ward, I always love going home and going to church.  It is such a comfort to come back to where you grew up and to the people that have shaped your life.  That evening we went to Alexis Jensen's missionary homecoming get together.  I can't believe she is home!  Now that is crazy talk.  Afterward, my vacation took a turn for the worst.  Mom and Dad went to visit Travis and Deb and I took Ellie home to get her in bed.  As I'm getting her ready I started to feel sick.  I kept telling her to hurry because I needed to go lay down.  I thought that would help me feel better...nope.  Within an hour or so I had the full fledged stomach flu!  It was horrible.  Absolutely horrible.  I was down for the count.  Mom and Dad came home to a very sick daughter.  I was really sick all night...I didn't know someone could get that sick.  And being pregnant on top of it was the most miserable thing ever.  Thankfully I was home and Monday Mom and Dad were able to take care of Ellie for me.  I was in bed all day long.  Around 6:00 in the morning I was so thirsty but I couldn't keep water down.  I had the thought to try ice chips, so I went downstairs and tried to crush up some ice...I'm sure Mom and Dad were quite confused to hear pounding going on downstairs.  But it was worth it!  I was able to start getting some fluids back in my body.

As the day went on I was able to get some more fluids in and finally by the evening I had enough energy to join the land of the living...on the couch at least.  Ha.  That was about all I could muster.  I did call the doctor's office to make sure I didn't need to go in and get checked out, but they said as long as the baby was still moving like normal and I was able to keep fluids down to wait it out and that the baby would get what it needed.  Well, the baby sure took what she needed...it took me longer to recover than normal because that baby sucked every nutrient I put into my body!  But it's fine, I let her have it :)  My body was so sore for a few days and it really did take me a few days to replenish my energy, but by Wednesday I was feeling much better.  Tuesday I pushed myself a little in the afternoon/evening and went with Mom to finish up her Christmas shopping.  It was nice to get out, but I sure did get tired much faster.

I'm just really grateful I was with family who could take care of Ellie.  I don't know what I would have done if I was home by myself.  She actually got pretty spoiled because her cousin Bradyn came over for a few days and she LOVES him.  So much.  He is so good with her.  She started telling me that he is her best friend.  It was adorable.  She loved having someone to play with for 3 days.  I'm so glad she got to have that time with her cousin.  Oh, and these Hulk gloves, they make a crashing noise when you hit something.  When we first got home Ellie wasn't too sure about them...but Bradyn sure got her loving them...and then she kind of turned into the Hulk!  She loved beating up on him!
Wednesday 12/23/15: Today was really special for me.  This morning I was finally able to go to the Indianapolis Temple!!!  I still cannot believe we have a temple in Indiana.  It is the coolest thing ever.  Mom and I went with the Jensens, DeeAnne and Nikki.  It was so fun to be able to spend some time with all of them!  And the temple, gorgeous!!!  It was the best thing to be able to go.  Mom gave me my own personal mini tour.  It was so cool to hear all the stories of things that happened during the building of the temple and to learn about all the tiny details that make it special.  I cannot wait to go back again.  Gah.  I'm still in shock we drove to the temple from our house in a little more than an hour!  Such a blessing for everyone in Indiana :)
When we got home from the temple we finally decorated the Christmas tree with Ellie and Bradyn. Yes, we are behind on the Christmas decorating, but it's more about the experience, right?!  Ellie is pretty obsessed with Christmas trees this year.  She keeps saying they are her favorite part.  So she was excited to get to decorate a second one.  She especially loved helping Grandma put the tinsel on!  I mean, what 2 year old doesn't love shiny, sparkly tinsel?!  What was funny though was that she would only put it on one branch.  I'm just glad she was having fun :)
Thursday 12/24/15: Merry Christmas Eve!  We are finally all together!!!  Landen was supposed to fly in last night, but he got stuck in Chicago.  Mom and I were wrapping presents last night and I randomly checked on his flight and I noticed that his flight from Chicago to Indy was canceled.  I tried not to panic until I got some more information.  I couldn't find much online, so I called the airlines and sure enough it was canceled due to weather, but luckily they already had him booked on another flight this morning at 9:00.  So I had to decide what to do.  We were tempted to jump in the car and head to Chicago to pick him up...which is one of the reasons I wanted him to have a layover there, just in case he got stuck we would be close enough to drive and pick him up.  But as we got thinking about it we realized it would be silly to do that.  By the time we got there and picked him up and got back home it would be like 3 or 4 in the morning and all we would be doing is sleeping anyway.  The weather was also pretty bad, Dad was driving back from Indianapolis from taking Bradyn home during all of this and said it was super windy and rainy and not fun to drive in.  And we would be exhausted making that drive again.  And Landen just needed to sleep!  He had worked all night Tuesday and then been up all day Wednesday traveling, so he just needed to sleep.  I finally just made the decision to get him a hotel room in Chicago so he could sleep and then make his flight in the morning.  I didn't really want to put out the money for a hotel, but by the time we paid for gas and our sanity, it was worth it!  HA!  At least then by the time we picked him up today we had all gotten a good night's sleep and could enjoy being together.  We were so glad he finally made it in!

Previous to his flight being canceled he had a ridiculous traveling day just getting to the airport.  I had it all set up for him to take the shuttle from Logan to the airport and I had Arien arranged to get him to the shuttle.  She got him there on time and after she left he realized he left his headphones in her car! It took him a bit to get a hold of her, but she was able to get back there and get him his headphones.  Then he sat there and waited and waited because the shuttle was late.  He finally gets on the shuttle and it has to make lots of stops and gets even more behind schedule really quickly.  Some other people they were picking up decided to not get on and just drive to the airport because the guy was so far behind schedule.  So as they are driving down to Salt Lake he had to make a stop in Ogden and the guy completely missed the exit (by a few exits!) so they had to back track.  Then he got back on I-15 going the wrong way and had to get turned around.  It was a complete disaster.  You would think if it is your job to drive you would know where you are going...  I had scheduled the shuttle so that Landen would be to the airport almost 2 1/2 hours early and thank goodness I did!  And then we found out his flight was delayed which actually was a huge blessing because he probably would have barely missed his flight if it had been on time.  I was just really happy to hear that he made it to the airport and on the plane at that point!!!  And then the little fiasco in Chicago didn't help.  But he made it here and that's all that is important.  Looking back it was way more stressful than it feels like now...but it really was such a long day for him and frustrating.  We just have to try and look at the positive and that he made it here safe...FINALLY!
Friday 12/25/15: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!  We had the laziest Christmas ever...and I loved every minute of it!  Let's just say that none of us adults got dressed all day.  Ellie only got changed because she sat on her cinnamon roll and got frosting all over her jammies.   But it was so nice to not have to be anywhere and to just be able to relax and enjoy being together.  Christmas morning was really fun with Ellie.  She is at such a fun age for it!  She was so excited to open her stocking and gifts.  Holidays really are so much more fun with children :)  Ellie got quite spoiled.  I was so excited about her Anna doll that she got from Santa!  She really liked it...but I have to admit, it was not her favorite gift.  My dreams were shattered! HA! It's funny how we get so excited to give something to our child and then sometimes it's not the beloved gift.  Luckily the gift she did love the most was from us.  I got her a dry erase book.  She loves that she gets to use a marker and she can wipe it off and do it over and over and over.  She used that book all day long.  And almost everyday since then :)  She seriously loves that book.  I've loved watching her pen control improve as she's been drawing in it so much.  At first she would just color pictures in, but now she will trace the dotted lines and tries to actually use the book.  I just love watching her develop.  She amazes me.  Anyway...Christmas was so great and to be able to spend it with my parents in Indiana was just icing on the cake.  I am so grateful for a great day home with family :)
The rest of the trip: Can we just talk about food for a minute?!  Of course I always have to hit Arni's and Steak'n'Shake as many times as possible when I'm home.  Well, due to being so busy the first few days home and then the stomach flu and then the holidays I didn't get either of them until Landen got there!!!  On Christmas Eve we got to go on a date to Steak'n'Shake...luckily I called and asked what time they closed so we made it there in time to eat...  We hit it up one other night and met Nikki there to visit for awhile.  I didn't get Arni's until Saturday 12/26!!!!!!!!  That was the worst thing ever!  I love that place so much and made sure to fit in another trip there before we left.  I'm already missing it...  Gosh it's delicious.  I, of course, had to take the traditional picture to send to Jared to make him jealous :)

Mom and Dad were so great to watch Ellie so we could have a few dates while we were home.  We also got to go see the new Star Wars movie, which was better than I was expecting.  It wasn't my first choice, I wanted to see Mockingjay Part 2, but our theater wasn't showing it anymore and the closest one was in Indy...it just wasn't worth it to drive an hour.  At this point we'll just wait until it goes to the cheap theater in Logan :)  Anyway, it was just nice to go to the theater!  It's been awhile.

Our last Sunday home we had all of my family out for our Christmas party.  It was so fun to get together with all of my siblings and families.  All my nieces and nephews are getting so big, it's ridiculous.  We almost all don't fit in the house anymore.  We did a white elephant gift exchange which was quite hilarious.  Ellie loved having all of her cousins there to play with, especially to have Bradyn there again.  It was a really fun day just visiting.

The last few days we just hung out and relaxed most of the time.  I needed a few down days.  It was just so good to get away and go home and be with my parents and Landen and Ellie.  We needed this vacation so bad and it was perfect.  I am so grateful we were able to make this happen.  Ellie was so spoiled and got all the attention her little heart could desire.  She loved getting rides to bed on Poppa Tom's shoulders.  And she loved sleeping in her big girl bed.  I'm so glad she got to experience Indiana again :)

We flew home yesterday.  We had to get up really early to drive to Chicago and hit some bad weather, but we made it there.  The airport was INSANE.  I have never seen so many people in an airport before.  The lines were absolutely nuts.  We got checked in quickly, but then we had to wait in line for so long.  Security was a joke and took forever.  And it didn't help to have people around you freaking out because they thought they were going to miss their flight...which happened to be the same flight we were on... Yes, we were cutting it close, but there were a ton of us stuck in that line and we barely made it through in time...just to find out that the flight was delayed!  HA!  But I was okay with that so that I could get some breakfast.  It ended up being fine.  The flight home was good and Ellie did well again.  She was a little more antsy this time, but she was tired.  We had to leave so early that I figured she would sleep in the car on the way to Chicago...NOPE.  Not a wink.  But of course, the last 20 minutes of the flight she crashed!  She has a knack for doing that...oh well.  It was just good to get home.  Jess picked us up and we visited with her for a few minutes, hit the chiropractor (I was so excited to fly in at a normal time of day on a weekday so we could go after our trip!), then met Amber for dinner.  We made it home and got Ellie in bed and we went straight to bed too.  We were exhausted.  Now I just need a vacation from my vacation...
Thursday 12/31/15:  We finally finished up Christmas today :)  We tried to do Christmas pretty low key this year with Ellie.  She got her Anna doll and dry erase book in Indiana.  Then today we let her finish opening her gifts.  She got a new book, a toy that teaches about some fruits and veggies and her big gift was a toy kitchen from Santa!  She absolutely loved it!!!  She is really starting to actually play with toys and make believe so I thought this would be the perfect time to get the kitchen. I told Grandma Nita we were getting it so she got her a food set to use with the kitchen.  I'm so glad this was a win!  It was such a great Christmas :)  (And to be honest I'm so grateful it's over...all the commercial side of it that is.  I was so happy to get the tree and decorations down and have my house back to normal.)
The last thing I have to write about is the service we received this Christmas season.  A few days before we were leaving for Indiana we got doorbell ditched and it was the stable of a nativity set with a note explaining that a family chose us to give us the 12 Day of Christmas.  I was in awe.  I couldn't believe it was happening.  I felt so blessed and grateful that someone would choose to do something so kind for us.  And then I felt really bad that we were leaving!!!  It kind of stressed me out since we didn't know who was doing it.  So I decided to write a letter explaining that Ellie and I would be leaving and that Landen would be leaving later and that he has a weird schedule so to leave things between the doors if possible. I felt so awkward leaving that note, but I didn't want anything to get ruined.  The next night they didn't see the note and I was worried they wouldn't get it, so I put it in a more visible spot the next night and they found it.  It was so kind of them to keep doing this for us even though we weren't here to enjoy it every day.  Landen told us some of the things they were leaving while we were gone.  But when I came home I was overwhelmed with how much they left for us!

Our kitchen table was completely covered and there were bags and boxes all over the floor of gifts.  It was incredible.  I didn't even know where to start.  And I was feeling so grateful for the kindness shown to us.  I can't even begin to list everything they gave us, but I will try: a Melissa and Doug nativity set; bags and boxes of food - some for meals and others were treats; coloring and sticker books, 5 or 6 regular books, 3 puzzles, stuffed animals, etc. for Ellie; a new set of bath towels - the huge bath sheets ones that are amazing!; a framed picture of Christ; a throw blanket; mugs with tons of hot cocoa stuff; a new 9x9 baking dish...gosh, there was so much more but I can't even think of it all right now.  And that's not what it was about.  I was in tears by the time we were done going through all the bags and boxes.  Oh, I didn't even mention the 6 or 7 wrapped gifts for Ellie: a Melissa and Doug percussion set; 2 outfits, cute boots included; pajamas, socks, a hat and mittens; and a few other things.  She was so spoiled...in a good way :)

But the part that got me was in an envelope we found in the bag with the picture of Christ.  I opened it up and there were two giftcards in there.  I figured they probably had $25 dollars-ish on them.  I turned over the Lee's one and just started crying.  It was for $300.  I about died.  Then we looked at the Walmart giftcard and it was for $200.  Tears.  I just cried.  We stood there just blown away.  I just said a little prayer in my heart to thank Heavenly Father for the kindness that was shown to us from this incredible family.  Words cannot even describe how blessed I feel right now.  I still get teary when I talk about this and as I'm writing this.  Landen and I decided to just tuck the giftcards away for when the baby comes so we can use them for formula and diapers.  Just knowing we have a little money put away for those things has relieved a lot of stress for me.  Again, I am so overcome with gratitude.  I don't know why this family chose us, but I will be forever grateful to them for this gift of charity they shared with us this Christmas season.  They showed us the true meaning of Christmas in their act of kindness to our family.  I am so blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful, Christlike individuals...even if I don't know who they are.  Merry Christmas!

Baby Update - Glucose Tests

Right before I left for Indiana I had my doctor's appointment.  They did another ultrasound to check my placenta...and everything looks great now!  They said it "moved" enough that I don't need to have a c-section, so that is great news.  She said everything else was still looking good.  I jokingly asked her to check and make sure it was still a girl...and she entertained me and checked.  It's still girl :)  It was fun seeing the baby again.  We also got some really cool 3-D pictures!  They did them at the other ultrasound too, but since she is bigger now they turned out even better.  I love them!  It makes me even more excited to see her in real life.

I also had to do my glucose test at this appointment.  I'm so glad that it doesn't make me sick.  That orange drink doesn't bother me at all.  I wasn't even worried about the results, but later that day I got a call that my test came back a little high, so I needed to go do the full 3 hour glucose test.  Dang it.  They wanted me to come in that week, but I couldn't since I was leaving for Indiana. So I had to do it today, which worked out well since Landen was off work and could keep Ellie.  I had to go fasting so I went first thing in the morning.  I ended up being there about 4 1/2 hours, but it wasn't that bad...that much time without my two year old...it was like a vacation!  You can poke me in the arm all you want :)  I had time to catch up on work emails and do a lot of work stuff online.  Nicholas Sparks and I had a date too.  It was pretty great.

They tested my blood first thing and my blood sugar was where it was supposed to be, so I had to drink the orange drink.  Again, not a big deal.  Then they drew blood every hour for 3 hours and checked my glucose level.  Not too hard.  I was still fasting the whole time, but luckily it didn't bother me that much.  I was glad to get home and eat a little something though.
I'll just go ahead and give the full update in this post (since I'm technically writing it in February...).  A week had gone by and I hadn't heard anything from the doctor about my test, so I figured the results came back fine and stopped thinking about it.  Well, I got a call back and my test actually came back borderline for gestational diabetes.  The nurse told me that I needed to meet with a diabetes dietitian.  She put me on hold to make an appointment with him and as I sat there and got thinking about it I started getting really upset.  I'm not sure why I was so upset, but I was.  By the time she came back on the phone I was crying.  We got an appointment set up for the next week and then I got off the phone and just cried.  It was just frustrating.  I think it was hard to hear since I had gotten to the point that I thought I was good to go.  The next morning I had to call the office back because I had some questions and the nurse felt so bad that she upset me the night before, but I assured her it wasn't her fault.  It was probably just my hormones making me crazy.

I had an appointment with Dr. Olsen the next week and he explained what was going on.  I'm only borderline for gestational diabetes because only one of my 4 blood tests came back high, but to be diagnosed 2 of the 4 tests have to be high.  He said that since I'm borderline I will need have a modified diet and that the dietitian will explain everything in more detail.  Blah.

Two days later I had my appointment with Patrick Shepherd, the dietitian.  He was really great and explained everything so well.  He taught me all about glucose and insulin and how it works together.  He talked about how during pregnancy the diabetes is caused by the placenta and the hormones, which is why after you give birth and deliver the placenta your body goes back to normal within 24 hours.  Since I'm borderline we just want to prevent it from turning into gestational diabetes, because if we didn't do anything it would definitely develop into diabetes before the end of the pregnancy.  The biggest risk is that the baby will get too big too fast which could result in needing a c-section and some other complications, but if we can prevent that from happening then the baby is at no bigger risk for some things than any other baby.  The fist thing I said to him was, "Just tell me what I CAN'T eat.  Just get it out of the way!"

So basically I have to limit my carbs.  I need to keep a meal under 45 grams of carbs and a snack under 20 grams.  The only things he told me I can't have are regular soda (which I knew was coming...so I drank a big Coke from McDonald's earlier today to have one last one...yes, I'm horrible.), juice, dried fruit, and fat free candy (like Swedish fish or jelly beans or marshmallows...stuff like that.  But chocolate is okay because it has fat in it.).  The only thing that will be hard will be the Coke.  Man I love my Coke.  Anyway, other than that, I just have to watch what I'm eating.  If there is a label I just have to go by that, but if not he gave me categories of how many carbs are in something and a serving is about a half cup.  I think I can handle that.  Meat, eggs, cheese, fats and diet drinks don't count at all, so I can have as much of that as I want.  I left there feeling pretty good about things, but as the days went on and I tried to stay under my carbs I realized how much harder it was going to be than I thought!  There are a lot of things I "can't" have just because the carbs are too high...like pizza among other things.  Now that is a sad day.

This has been so hard!  The first week was kind of miserable and I was hungry all the time as I was trying to figure out what I could eat.  I've been eating a lot of bacon and eggs, chicken, I've even made some salads.  Yes, you read that right, SALAD.  But I'm surviving.  I have had some cheat meals (or days when we went to Jared and Megan's for a weekend) here and there, but for the most part I have been doing well.  It actually has been more emotionally hard than I thought it would be.  Sometimes food is my outlet and during pregnancy it's kind of like the one time in life you get a "free pass" on what you eat (to an extent) and when that is taken away it is hard.  I have had some days where I was in tears about it all, but I've made it through.  I just have to remind myself that it is temporary and I need to do it for the baby, that's the most important thing.  She is lucky I love her :)  I've gotten to the point now where I eat a lot of the same things over and over, but I know what I can and can't eat.  I've also figured out where I can eat out and what I can get.  Pathetic, I know.  I'm now 37 weeks (yes, I'm writing this on 2/17/16)...so only 3 more weeks of this!  I can do it!  I told Landen he better have a pizza and a Coke waiting for me after I push this baby out!!!

The other thing I've had to do is test my blood sugar once a day.  It's really the only way to know if this is working.  Pricking my finger is not my favorite thing, but it isn't the worst thing ever.  I have new respect for people who have to test multiple times a day and do this all the time.  My blood sugar is supposed to be between 70-130 when I test.  There has only been one time I've been over and it was only 134, so this is working.  I've even tested after my cheat meals sometimes and I've been fine...so that is good news.  I'm so glad I don't have full fledged gestational diabetes and that things have been pretty good by just doing these things.  OH, the other thing I'm supposed to be doing is 20-40 minutes of physical activity everyday...but I have been really bad at doing that!  I am so tired and sore the last thing I want to do is move around...but anyway.  Overall things are good and it doesn't seem like the baby is getting too big...so I can make it 3 more weeks!  I can do this, I can do this, I can do this!!!  But I am so excited to not have to worry about it anymore...and to get my pizza and Coke privileges back :)

Thanksgiving Weekend ~ 2015

I always love a good holiday weekend when Landen gets to be home and spend extra time with us.  And Thanksgiving weekend was great this year!  We went to Brent and Stacy's again this year, which I always love.  It was so fun to just spend a nice, relaxing day with family.  And to eat.  I have been craving turkey for MONTHS now and could not wait for Thanksgiving!!!  It did not disappoint.  I am so happy I was finally able to get some...well, LOTS...of turkey.  It was so delicious and made this prego woman very, very happy.  All the food was delicious, I just wish I could have eaten more of it :)  Ellie's favorite part was the pie, as usual.  This girl loves her momma's banana cream pie.  So does the rest of the family.

The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing and enjoying some family time.  On Sunday we finally broke out the Christmas decorations and got ready for the holidays to come.  I was tempted to not put the tree up this year since we will be in Indiana, but I couldn't do it.  I knew we needed to enjoy it for awhile before we left...and then Landen can enjoy it until he joins us in Indiana.  Ellie had a great time helping decorate this year.  She seriously loved it.  I personally am just glad it's done and we can just enjoy it from here on out :)

Dentist Time!

The past few months I've noticed this blackish film forming on Ellie's teeth.  I've tried to brush it off and tried to scrape it off and nothing is working.  I have a friend that I visit teach, Tiffany, who is a dental hygienist.  I asked her about it and she said it was probably nothing to be worried about, sometimes kids just get this stain on their teeth and they just have to get it polished off.  She was so kind and offered to do it one night after she got off work.  I've been talking it up to Ellie and getting her excited about it and she has been talking about going to the dentist for weeks now.  "I go dentist and get princess toothbrush!"

So I took Ellie to see her tonight.  I was nervous that she would freak out, but she did AWESOME!  Tiffany was so good with her and made her feel really comfortable.  There was one tool she didn't love, but Tiffany was still able to scrape most of the stain off.  We will probably do it again in a few months just to get a little deeper in her mouth.  She said a lot of the time the stain doesn't come back, so we will see how it goes, and also that usually it is something they grow out of.  That makes me happy.  I was a little worried she had bad teeth!  Afterward Tiffany let Ellie play with the air hose and she thought it was the best thing ever!  She also got the princess toothbrush she was promised and a rubber glove "balloon."  I am so pleased with how this went.  I'm so grateful for good friends who are willing to help you out.  And I'm so grateful Tiffany made this such a positive experience for Ellie :)

Baby Girl ~ 22 Weeks

I guess I should start documenting this baby a little more...but of course Ellie had to be part of it!  She wants her picture daily right now.  And yes, it may look like she's adoring my baby belly, she's not.  She's looking at herself on the phone.  Big surprise :)
